James Lavelle and guests will play special DJ sets as part of Concrete Lates.[1] The following evening, 19 April 2019, Lavelle will perform with UNKLE at the Southank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.[2] The Concrete Lates set will be broadcast live on Soho Radio and is scheduled to cover four hours.
"This year James Lavelle will be celebrating 30 years of DJing in clubs. To mark this milestone, Lavelle will be hosting a series of special events around the world. He starts by returning to Southbank Centre, the site of his triumphant 2014 Meltdown festival, to headline their stylish new club night, Concrete Lates. For this special edition of Concrete Lates, Lavelle will be performing an exclusive set documenting 30 years of club culture. Having been resident at some of the world’s most famous clubs over the last three decades, including Fabric, Berlin's Watergate, Ibiza's Space and Tokyo's Womb, he constantly evolved as a DJ, traversing genres and refusing to be pigeon holed. He has produced multiple mixes for the Global Underground series, as well as for Cream and Fabric (the infamous Fabriclive 01 mix). Taking it back to where it all began, joining him on the night will be DJ Milo. As a founder member of Bristol’s legendary Wild Bunch Sound System alongside Grantley Marshall (Massive Attack’s Daddy Gee) and Nellee Hooper, Milo helped define the ‘Bristol Sound’ and shape the blueprints of Trip-Hop. His fabled cut-and-paste track ‘Return of the Original Artform’ with Hiroshi Fujiwara and Japan’s Major Force Crew was a major influence on Lavelle and his label Mo'Wax. Having spent the last three decades living in New York, Milo has worked under a number of aliases, most notably ‘Nature Boy’ and ‘DJ Nature’, under which he recorded a highly acclaimed Boiler Room set.
Bringing the story full-circle, Lavelle has enlisted one of London’s most exciting young DJ’s, Shy One to play. Seeing her father, ‘Madhatter’ Trevor Nelson DJing with Soul II Soul was a seminal moment for Lavelle. Having started her career DJing on pirate radio stations aged only 13, she has fast made a name for herself, and her eclectic sets are not to be missed."[3]
