BBC Radio's Essential Mix - 26 Jun 2005

James Lavelle and Darren Emerson's mixes were played in an edited format the next day as part of BBC Radio's Essential Mix. While the mix has been referred to as being live, fans have noted that the performance at Glastonbury was different. For example, "Was at the lavelle set and remember an excellent tune not included here that used a number of Darth Vader samples, including a simple "Rise!" before each crescendo", "I was at lavelle, and it was the best set i've ever heard. The radio version really doesn't do it justice and cuts out the best moment from glasto for me when they did the make poverty history thing and then lavelle says, "let's f*ing 'ave" it and pumped out some nasty base :)"[4], and "i was there. Mid afternoon in one of the dance tents (yeah probably East). Stunning set. He played for about 75/90 minutes and the essential mix was just an edited down version of that. Have listened to it so many times i’ve forgotten what he played originally that didn’t make the radio but i remember he played all 15 minutes of the Way Out West mix...and i’m pretty sure it was Saturday. He was wearing a plain white t-shirt, light brown cargo pants + sunglasses fact fans!"[5]

In June 2020 James Lavelle posted the mix online to Mixcloud with the following comments:

"I first played @glastofest with @hybridscores at @gladeareaglasto in 2002. It totally blew my mind; I had never experienced anything like it before. The fact that my brother had been going for years with his ear-to-nose chain and dreads, and a taste in music we didn't share, had meant it hadn't appealed to me. Its reputation in dance music as more of a psychedelic trance hub didn’t sound like my thing, but Mike and Chris persuaded me to come (for which I'm forever grateful, even though I think the hangover has taken decades to get out of my system, lol)... So we played @fabricliveofficial, and left at 6 in the morning on our adventure, eventually arriving early in the morning, to play at The Glade that evening; a moment I'll never forget. Memories of me playing the sounds of @bushwacka with an endless crowd of people in this incredible setting in total euphoria will be with me forever... It was just fucking amazing!

I continued to DJ there for years, and played with UNKLE live in 2008. This is one of my favourite sets that I played there. A live Essential Mix, with @darrenemersonmusic on after, a mix of classic breakbeat, UNKLE reconstructions and club tracks. I always remember playing the incredible Britney Spears remix by @james__holden; it was one of those electric moments, the crowd was amazing and it blew the place to bits...

Happy 50th Glastonbury. Thank you for the amazing memories and all the crazy times..."[6]
